Did you hear that there’s DaVinci Resolve 18 just around teh corner? Well it is!
Â
While there are some cool features being added I first wanted to look what is being done with the subtitle functionality.
Â
There is a lot of new support when it comes to TTML, which is fine but that’s mostly for streaming and TV production.
Â
So what is there for those that aren’t into TV production?
Â
Well they introduced subtitle regions within subtitle tracks. So we can now have 4 subtitles per subtitle track, however you have to note that this will only work if you burn the subtitles into the video. You of course can export those 4 subtitle regions as a TTML file, but if you export it as say an SRT subtitle file, then only the original subtitle will be exported without the 3 additional regions that you have in the subtitle track.
Â
Still, you now don’t need to stack timelines to display up to subtitles and with each stacked timeline you will be able to display up to 4 additional subtitles – previsouly in DaVinci Resolve 17 each subtitle had to be on its own timeline.
Until next time Jackalls, Keep it Digital
