In this video you’ll learn how to make a customizable SMS Text Speech Bubble Effect using DaVinci Resolve 17 or 18 – This was done in DR 18 beta 5. You can also do this with older versions but in that case you will have to use polygons instead of shapes, which means that the result won’t be the same and it’ll require more work on your part.
To start off we make a fusion composition, put it on the timeline and with the fusion clip selected go into the fusion page. This effect can be overdone but I just kept it simple (low number of nodes) and decided to make it very customisable.
The fun part starts here with the shapenodes. If you want to know how to make a custom fusion page toolbar check out this video https://youtu.be/2khglLlBOig As you’ll see during the video I use different kind of text bubble effects, but all of them were made using the same effect that I show you how to make. This just goes to show how customisable it’ll be.
For the text I just kept it simple, but you can add a typewriter like effect and I also have a video how to do that https://youtu.be/V5WVck7S8HA
Lastly, to make this effect quickly accessible and reusable I show you how to make a macro, I also have a video on macro settings which you can watch on this link https://youtu.be/KtWelmTu-G8 . But because this macro is very specific I also show you which options you should enable – as you’ll see I forgot to enable very important ones (position and background) – but if you save the macro as a group you can still make changes in the fusion page, which is not possible if you just use the Save As option when saving the macro. Alternatively you can save the macro again, but you’ll have to do all of the clicking.. again. So make sure you get it right the first time!
